Well we've been quiet for a while now on the Safety Statement Template Blog as
we've been carrying out the annual update of all the Safety Statement Templates.
Starting today we are uploading the new Safety Statement Templates as well as
the revised existing Safety Statement Templates.
Among the new ones is a
Headstone and Monumental Safety Statement Template that includes a method
statement specific for working in Graveyards. We've also made a significant
addition to the Builder Safety Statement Template with the inclusion of a
template induction training pack that can be tailored for any new site. As
always the Previews of the Safety Statement Templates are on the home page and
you can email us anytime with requests for new additions.

Nightclub Safety Statement Template
Well we're back in full flow here with our Safety Statement Templates. The first
new Safety Statement Template of 2012 is one for a Nightclub. As with many of
our other Safety Statement Templates, this arose out of a special request so
remember if the one you want is not there just ask.
As well as all of the standard items that are found in our Safety Statement Templates the new one for a Nightclub has topics such as Door Staff and Security, Bar and Cellar work, Small Food preparation, Noise in Entertainment, Special Effects and Indoor Pyrotechnics.
Its quite a comprehensive Safety Statement Template and should suit the majority of Nightclubs out there. The preview is available to view here as well as on the home page.

Cyclops Mirrors
For any of you out there who operate haulage companies or drive HGVs, don't forget to make sure anything over 7,500kgs has a Cyclops mirror fitted. Any of you operating HGVs that were registered after 2007 will already have them but the new regualtions extend the requirement to all HGV regardless of age.

Happy New Year to all of our Customers. The good news for this year is that
however small it may be, we have absorbed the VAT increase on all of our Safety
Statement Templates!
In order to keep the price of a Safety Statement Template the same as in 2011 the price is now €113.13 plus VAT at 23%. Therefore the total cost of one of our Safety Statement Templates is still a very affordable €139.15.

School HSA Inspections
It seems that in recent weeks and months the Health and Safety Authority Inspectors have been visiting a lot of schools. This is along the lines of the normal HSA Modus Operandi in that they will typically concentrate on a particulr sector for a series of visits.
Most of the schools I have been hearing from performed well but its important to note the typical items the inspectors were looking for:
1) Chemicals were high on the list. Schools need to ensure that all lab substances are properly labelled, correctly stored and in date.
2) As fire could be a disastrous event in a school, the fire safety precautions came under very close scrutiny.
3) One of the other hot topics was the issue of maintenance and housekeeping staff and how they are supported and trained.
There were of course various other issues that arose on a school by school basis but these 3 were among the most common.

Intoxicants at work and the HSA.
One of the biggest things to hit us when the 2005 Health, Safety and Welfare at Work act came in to force was the section on intoxicants in the Workplace. "Great" we all thought, or at least those of us working in H&S who were used to seeing forklift drivers under the influence or machine operators with pupils as wide as their corneas.
We waited patiently for the regualtions in 2007 but lo' and behold the section on intoxicants was not regulated for. Nobody could say why but an opportunity was missed.
This week the HSA published an FAQ on intoxicants that does clear up some of the confusion but also very clearly states that there is no regulation on the horizion. Bloody shame.
